Even more seriously. Could ANYONE have escaped this? Could you REALLY make an argument that I should have CALLED here????

Not escapable, don't even bother yourself with it. Just chalk it up to one of your mathematically-dictated tournament exits and move on to the next mtt.
It sucks, but I would not sweat a beat like that. You played it perfectly the whole way and the river made it impossible for you not to get stacked. How could you just call the river, yknow? You're hoping the guy has a Ten and will call your allin, of course.
Try raising the flop.
Don't limp.
Sorry, I meant "try raising preflop"
Sadly an almost exact situation happened to me on the bubble in my last home game... made my full house on the river (with 22) when someone slowplaying their aces had flopped the boat... I try to tell myself I could have called but really, it was unavoidable.
